Get Winter-Ready With TSR!

Those steamy hot mornings we all know too well will soon become a distant memory as the cooler months approach. Last winter was colder than average all along the East Coast (with up to 8cm of snow in parts of Southern Queensland)! These chilly thoughts have us wondering….Have you got a heating system for your home or office and if so, is it running well enough to keep your friends, family and colleagues feeling cosy?

Installing before Jack Frost arrives!

Queenslanders don’t always consider air conditioners as their first heating option to get them through the winter months. Some of us may think that an air conditioning unit that can warm and cool your space sounds too good to be true…and somewhat expensive. However, if you’re mindful of running costs and energy efficiency, we believe that installing a Reverse Cycle Split System air conditioner should be on the top of your list.

Electric Heating vs. Air Conditioning is often misunderstood. An easy way to remember the difference is that Air Conditioners are up to 3 times more efficient than electric heating!

Air Conditioning

Electric Heating
1KW of input = 3KW of heat output

1KW of input = 1KW of heat output

** KW = kilowatts

Why should you stay warm with a Reverse Cycle Split System Air Conditioner this winter?

Another thing to be aware of is air conditioning running temperatures. A reverse cycle air conditioner, in heating mode, will run at its most energy efficient when the thermostat is set between 18-22°C…. which brings us to our next point – if you already have an air conditioner installed, we recommend booking in for a Hyrdo-Clean to ensure your unit is performing at its best during winter.

The importance of Hyrdo-Cleaning before Winter!

At TSR, we recommend keeping your units in a clean and well-maintained state to ensure they continue to operate at their optimal level.

Air Conditioners need to be regularly serviced as they can harbour a variety of organisms such as mould, mildew, fungi, and bacteria which can make you and your family sick.

A TSR technician recently captured these shocking before and after filter shots whilst carrying out a rapid Hyrdo-Clean Service. It is imperative to keep your filters clean and preserved all year round, in particular before winter to avoid the risk of overheating and not to mention keeping the surrounding air clean and fresh!

Having a specialised technician carry out a coil clean will also help to avoid unpleasant smells in the cooler months. Dust, dirt and mould often form during the hot and sweaty months and have been known send a terrible smell into your home and office.

TSR’s Hyrdo-Clean service will not only get your air-conditioner heating more efficiently this winter but it will also help avoid those musty start up smells and let you and everyone else in the room enjoy the fresh clean air with reduced running costs.

Don’t be alarmed if water runs or drops from your outdoor unit in winter. The outdoor unit essentially becomes the “cooling” part of your reverse cycle system during winter which may cause water to drop or ice to form (especially on those frosty Gympie mornings!)

Finally, if your air conditioner has adjustable louvers, tilting them towards the floor also helps to warm the room in cold weather!

From the team at TSR, we’re sending warm wishes for Winter!
